5th GG Auction Cup - part 3

The nineth and and tenth game were played and the senior team got a victory! An Kwangwuk won by resignation. I think the game was favourable for Jeong, but in the endgame nearly on counting she resigned.

Pros knwo when to resign and hopefully she was right ;) Decide for yourself :)
Here are some pros replaying the game of  Choi and An:

The tenth game were plaed by An and Kim Nahyun. Nahyun is 1dan professional and she is pro since 2009. She is born in 1991 December 6th.

cute isn't she?

Beside her vita she could win the game by 5.5 points.

Here are the games:

Ladders - A basic skill

Anyone who read Kageyama Toshiro's Lessons in the Fundamentals of Go will know that we are supposed to solve ladders as easily as possible if we just trained right. Usagi on KGS made a set of ladder problems to help practicing this skill and I was allowed to post them here.

5th GG Auction Cup - part 2

It's kind a miracle that the female team is playing so nice against the old guys... In the preliminary or main rounds in the big tournaments they lose against the younger generation of pros but here they show us their strenght.

Choi Jung already won the next two games for the ladys team and she has now 8(!) victories in raw. Impressive!

Choi Jung 1p
She defeaded Seo Bongsu by resignation and won against O Kyuchul by 4.5 pts.

Here are the 7th and 8th game by Choi Jung...enjoy it!

Only four players by the senior team are left. These men are Cho Hunhyun, Yu Changhyuk, An Kwangwuk and Kim Jusang.

That aren't 'easy' guys to handle with but I am sure Ms Choi won't give up easily!

24 th Mingren

I think this is the first time we post an article about the Chinese tournament scene. Hopefully we will continue to post news in this area :)

OK, now some serious business. The third round of the 24th Mingren was played. The title holder is Jiang Weijie 5p and is hopping for an easy opponent. But - I guess - it won't be an easy player who will reach the final games.

Picture of last year's final

In the third round, on 5th July, Kong Jie beat  Gu Li by resignation as like Dang Yifei beat  Chen Yaoye which is for me kinda surprisingly. The next semifinal will play Chang Hao and Li Zhe, who defeaded Zhou Ruiyang and Gu Lingyi by 0.5 and 3.5 points.

The semifinals will be played on 7th July, the winners of these matches will face each other and play a Best-of-Three Play-off.

5th GG Auction Cup

This tournament is a competition between a female and a senior team. So far the female and the senior teams won both two editions of this tournament.

This year are following participants at start:

For the female team:

      Rui Naiwei(9d), Park Jieun(9d), Cho Hyeyeon(9d), Park Jiyeon(2d)
      Kwon Hyojin(5d), Lee Daehyeoi(4d), Lee Sula(3d), Kim Sunmi(2d),
      Moon Dowon(2d), Kim Nahyun(1d), Choi Jung(1d), O Junga(1d)

For the senior team:

      Cho Hunhyun(9d), Seo Bongsoo(9d), Yoo Changhyuk(9d), Cha Minsu(4d)
      Jang Suyong(9d), Seo Nungwuk(9d), Kim Soojang(9d), O Kyuchul(9d),
      Kim Dongyeop(9d), Kim Dongmyeon(9d), An Kwangwuk(8d), Kim Jongsu(7d)

Already six games were played and the female team didn't give up their leading position yet. The first game were played by Choi Jung (female) and Seo Nungwuk (senior). Seo is famous for his ambitious style on the board. But in this game he couldn't show his true skills as Choi destroyed him. The game ended with a huge 33,5 points win for Choi.

She played in the second game against Kim Jongsu and won this again but this time by resignation! From the third up to the sixth game she beat every senior she faced and now their are only six players left. But the nex game won't be so 'easy' for Choi Jung 'cause Seo Bongsu will try evreything he got to stop the female team.

For everyone who don't know Seo Bungsu. He was the main rival of Cho Hunhyun in the 80's in the top Korean tournaments. Accordíng to GoGameWorld Seo was 51 times runners-up to Cho, very impressive by Cho!

As far as I know the next match will be on 11th of July.

55th Kuksu - Round 1

Hey guys

hopefully my internet connection will celebrate a comeback next week. Atm I have some leisure time in my job so I decided to post a new article. This time it's about the Kuksu title.

The current title holder is Choi Cheolhan and he will face a strong player.

We have to show some extra respect to the young and new professionals in the Korean Baduk scene. Even two new players qualified for the main round in this version of the Kuksu. The other players were the same as always ;)

In the first round there are pairings like Yi Sedol vs Kim Jiseok, Pak Jeonghwan vs Kim Dongyun, Yi Changho vs Hong Sungji and Heo Yeongho vs Hong Kipyo. The results didn't show any surprising results and the favourites of the challenger place won their games.

In he second there are this games:
  • Yi Sedol vs Cho Hanseung
  • Kang Dongyun vs. Kang Yutaek
  • Park Jeonghwan vs Yi Changho and
  • Heo Yeongho vs Won Sungjin
